Abstact (Conclusions and Clinical Relevance)
This study describes outcomes of a cricotracheostomy (CT) technique for permanent tracheostomy in eight dogs with upper airway obstruction. All dogs recovered routinely, and the CT created a stable stoma supported by the cricoid cartilage without collapse or stenosis. Four dogs required additional skin fold resection, but overall, the high stoma position was functionally suitable. Owner questionnaires indicated high satisfaction with postoperative quality of life. The findings suggest CT is a feasible, reliable option for permanent tracheostomy, though further comparative studies with traditional methods are needed to confirm its advantages.
